Drew Media Ltd

Drew Media was operating as two separate sole trader businesses and in May 2017 decided to incorporate and form a limited company.

It became clear early on that, as a new business, Drew Media Ltd would need support and Red Shoes were able to meet all the business needs identified and helped the business navigate its first year of trading and did so in a way that really added value to the client, as set out in this case study.

Emma Drew

Emma Drew of Drew Media runs a blog which helps people to make and save money and to live the life of their dreams. The blog is attractive to businesses which wish to sponsor blog posts or to promote their service via the blog. Emma also runs on-line courses and within the business is another eBay business which buys items for resale. The website offers visitors ideas to make extra money online, find ways to save money and connect with like-minded people – in addition to a free 6 week money-making course.

Nature of the services provided by Red Shoes

Red Shoes provides an extensive range of services to Drew Media including annual limited company accounts, corporation tax, payroll services, Self-Assessment tax returns for both Directors as well as the provision of Registered Office facilities and a fee protection service (providing peace of mind against unexpected costs arising from an HMRC investigation). A subscription to Xero was included in the package of services offered and training and support was offered in its use.

Why Drew Media came to Red Shoes and the challenges this helped them solve

Drew Media originally operated as two sole traders who decided to incorporate and then realised that they needed assistance in moving forward. Having taken that step, Emma realised that they would need help, for example is setting up a payroll service. Having Googled local accountants, Emma liked the look and style of Red Shoes and wanted someone who was local who she could pop into see, when necessary. This was important as running an on line business can result in seeing very few people and it was important to be able to see a friendly face rather than someone more remote.

How Red Shoe’s services helped Drew Media and the value added to their company

Having services packaged together in a way that offered fixed monthly payments helped Drew Media in a number of ways. It took away the stress of setting up a business. Emma says that Vicky was very patient in answering all her questions (and she had a lot of questions) and answered and explained things in plain language not in accountants speak. Vicky and the team provided valuable advice and support to Drew Media throughout our first year of trading. Emma knew that there would be no unexpected bills as Red Shoes did not charge any extra for phone calls, emails or for visits to the office – all this was included within the monthly payment. Also having the ability to pay monthly helped with cashflow.

Why Emma Drew would recommend Red Shoes to others

Emma found Vicky and Red Shoes a very friendly and approachable firm and one which was very responsive in meeting all her business needs. More than that, Emma says Vicky was genuinely interested in and excited about her business venture (which was very encouraging for the business) and which was refreshing in itself. One thing which pleasantly surprised Emma was that she was invited in to see Vicky to hear suggestions about how the business could increase its tax efficiency – not something which she had expected but which she did really value. Emma also knows that Red Shoes can be flexible to meet the needs of the business as it grows and is excited about expanding the business with Red Shoes accounting at her side.
